Smooth Your Forehead with a Brow Lift

Is a Brow Lift right for you?
Your eyebrow and forehead are often the first to show signs of aging.  Aging affects the elasticity of the face, resulting in frown lines, wrinkling across the forehead, and heaviness of the eyebrows. This might lead you to seek out a cosmetic surgeon to perform a brow lift.  Various methods are used in this area of cosmetic surgery.

What happens during a Brow Lift?
The least invasive type of browlift surgery is the endoscopic browlift.   Several small incisions are placed just behind your hairline.  The forehead tissue is separated from the bone down to the level of the eyebrows.  The tissue can then be elevated and secured at a higher level.  This technique may elevate the hairline slightly so it may not be the best choice for someone with a tall forehead.   In this case, a technique in which forehead skin is removed just in front of the hairline may be more appropriate.  Dr. Bridges will discuss the options with you during your consult.

What results should you anticipate?
The result of a brow and/or forehead lift can be a smoother forehead and a more youthful expression. Also, typically the muscles between the eyebrows that cause frowning are weaked by cutting or cauterizaition during surgery.  This helps to prevent the brows from pulling down after surgery.  These are the muscles that are frequently temporarily weakened with BOTOX.  Oftentimes, you might elect for an eyelid lift during the brow lift.  Combining procedures can produce even greater results.  Consult with Dr. Bridges for more information on results expected from this, and other related procedures.

What can you expect post-surgery?
You may experience some swelling and bruising for about 10 days following browlift.  Dr. Bridges will see you the day after surgery to remove the dressing, check and clean the incisions.  A lighter dressing is then applied.   The overall recovery time is about  2 weeks.

Dr. Bridges recommends the following after a brow lift:

  • Take pain medication as instructed
  • Use cold compresses to reduce swelling
  • Keep your head elevated to reduce swelling
  • Numbness and itching are expected as incisions heal
  • Avoid strenuous activity for at least 2 weeks following surgery
  • Please bring other questions or concerns to your follow up appointments
