Is Scar Revision right for you?
If facial scarring from acne, trauma, or other causes has lowered your self-confidence, scar revision may be  a consideration for you.  With scar revision, visibility of the scar can diminish greatly.  There are many different treatments for scar revision, all of which depend on the location and type of scar.  Discussing various options with Dr. Bridges is essential in making a decision that is right for you.

What happens during a Scar Revision procedure?
During scar revision, Dr. Bridges  can remove or reorient scar tissue to make it less noticeable.  Sometimes more than one procedure may be necessary.  Several techniques can be used to help blend the scar into surrounding skin.  Dermabrasion and laser skin resurfacing are also options for scar revision, both of which are less invasive.  These can also be used in conjuction with surgical techniques.

What results should you anticipate?
Scar revision surgery makes it possible to diminish the look of scarring—it does not in all cases completely remove the scar.  Many times, the procedure greatly enhances the look of scarred skin and improves impaired facial functions.  Since there are many options for scar revision, Dr Bridges will carefully examine your scar(s) and discuss with you the appropriate treatments.

What can you expect post-procedure?
You may experience some minor swelling, bruising and redness following the plastic surgery.  For many, discomfort is minimal.  Fine sutures are used and typically removed within days of the procedure.

The plastic surgeon recommends the following after scar revision procedures:

  • Take pain medication as instructed
  • Use cold compresses to reduce swelling
  • Refrain from activities that put stress on the area of incision
  • Keep your head elevated when lying down
  • Take pain medication as instructed
  • Avoid sun exposure
