Find out about “The New Age of Anti-age” with Sculptra Aesthetic
Is Sculptra right for you?
Sculptra Aesthetic is a new concept in non-surgical facial rejuvenation. Sculptra Aesthetic is poly-L-lactic acid, a substance used to make absorbable sutures for many years. When injected into the subcutaneous tissues of the face, it slowly induces natural collagen formation. Unlike other direct facial fillers, such as Juvederm, Restylane, or Radiesse, the “filler” in this case is your own natural collagen.
What happens during a Sculptra Aesthetic session?
Sculptra is mixed with local anesthetic to minimize discomfort during injection. Topical numbing cream is also used for most patients. Usually 2 or 3 sessions, spaced 6 weeks apart, are required. The beauty of Sculptra Aesthetic is that the results happen very slowly, but then last much longer than other fillers. The results can last up to 2 years after the final injections. Dr. Bridges carefully marks areas on the face that will be injected. Typical areas treated include the nasolabial folds, the jowl region, the area under the cheekbones, and the temples. These areas tend to lose volume as the face ages. Restoration of the volume in these areas can produce natural, youthful results. This is an exciting concept.
What can you expect post-procedure?
The recovery process is generally quick. Minor bruising and swelling are typical and usually resolve in a few days. The fluid injected (sterile water with local anesthetic) mixed with the Sculptra Aesthetic material will be absorbed by your body over the next 24-48 hours. At that point, you will see no change in your face. The deposited Sculptra Aesthetic material then begins the slow process of collagen stimulation, so the results are seen gradually over many weeks. In fact, it is common to see NO results after the first injection. That’s why completing the series of injections is critical to getting good results.
What results should you anticipate?
Sculptra Aesthetic restores volume to the face lost due to aging by stimulating collagen formation. The concept of facial volume loss is a “hot topic” in plastic surgery. As we age, fat and collagen in the temples and midface tends to shrink. This can start as early as your 30’s. The fat loss can be seen as a “deflation” of the tissue under the cheek bones. The overlying skin then tends to sag, causing the signs of aging such as jowling, deepening of the nasaolabial fold, and hollow cheeks. Sculptra Aesthetic restores this volume in a natural, longlasting way.
Dr. Bridges recommends the following after Sculptra Aesthetic injection:
• Apply cold compresses to minimize swelling and bruising
• Massage your face as instructed for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days
• Avoid aspirin for 1 week before and ibuprofen for at least 48 hours before injection
• Make sure you stick with the custom treatment plan designed by Dr. Bridges
